Captain's Chair Companion ("the app") is built and published by Matthew Weiler (Agimus Code). This page explains what data the app collects and how it's handled. In plain terms: the app collects nothing about you or your device by default. Nothing you enter leaves your device unless you explicitly turn on Usage Analytics or a sync to a third-party service you've configured.
By default, none. The app does not include any advertising SDKs, tracking pixels, or crash reporting sent to the developer.
The app offers an optional, opt-in and off by default, Usage Analytics setting (Settings → Sync). If you turn it on, the app shares anonymous, aggregated information to help focus development effort:
This never includes your game content, note text, captain or opponent identities, or anything that could identify you personally. Usage Analytics is handled by TelemetryDeck, an EU-based, privacy-first analytics service that anonymizes data by design and does not require tracking permission. See "Third-party services" below. Turning the setting off in Settings stops all future sends immediately — because the data was never tied to an identifiable device or person, there's no per-user record to separately delete.
The app stores the following locally on your device, in a local database managed by the operating system:
This data never leaves your device unless you initiate a sync to a third-party service (see below) or back up your device through your platform's own backup service.
If you enable BoardGameGeek sync, your BGG username and password are stored in your device's secure credential storage — the iOS Keychain or the Android Keystore, depending on platform. This means the credentials are:
These credentials are sent only to BoardGameGeek's own servers when you log a play or perform a test connection. They are never sent to the app developer.
The app optionally interacts with two third-party services:
If you do not enable BGG sync or Usage Analytics, the app makes no network requests.
The app is rated for all ages. Usage Analytics is off by default and, when enabled, only ever collects the anonymous, aggregated signals described above — never anything that could identify a user of any age.
All app data is local. To remove it:
